Door Knob Crafts

A couple of weeks ago I was very flattered to be offered a sample of items by Trinca Ferro, specialists in the most gorgeous handles and knobs, suitable for furniture and craft projects.  I immediately whizzed over to their site and chose an eclectic mix of glass and ceramic styles and here they are;

Aren't they lovely!

They stock a huge range with prices to suit all pockets from £2.30 to £25.00 and most styles cost around the £2.50 - £3.50 mark.

I'm going to be using four of mine for some display cloches, using my 'Clock to Cloche' tutorial and Alice has her eye on the butterflies for her little antique wooden jewellery box.

But as soon as I saw this cut glass one I knew it would perfectly compliment my collection of Edwardian mother of pearl buttons, which were previously stored in a boring jam jar and I was right;

I simply spray painted the jar lid black and then drilled a hole in the top using my trusty Dremel hand drill.

 The cut glass knob just screwed in using the fittings supplied.

 Perfect for vintage treasures!

They would also look gogeous on a dressing room table in your boudoir!

  12. Genius idea, Josie! Do you find spray-paint adheres ok to the tin lid? I ask because I am thinking of spraying some new but rather drearily- coloured chocolate tins but I don't know how the paint will work and whether the smooth surface will make the paint flake in use? Any advice gratefully received! Meanwhile I am off to check out gorgeous decorative doorknobs! Have a lovely day! E x

    1. Hi Elizabeth, I originally sprayed the lid last October and it has stood up pretty well. The lids were originally a cheap 'gold' colour and using black paint has the advantage that if it does chip then you can do a cheeky touch-up with a permanent black marker pen. If you wanted to do 'pretty tins' then how about a coat of white paint and then decoupage? If you check out these then you'll see that absolutely any image can be turned into a decoupage decal. If you scroll up these comments you'll find one from Sharon over at GrannysButtonBox and she's just done some tins and lids with Tilda fabrics. Josie x

    2. Hi Josie and Elizabeth, I have painted quite a few used jam jar lids with good quality emulsion paint and use the jars for storing screws etc in. I got some sample pots of emulsion in the Homebase closing down sale for 20p each. They have been painted for about 6 mths and the paint is still on. I keep my business cards in an old tobacco tin which is opened more and again, painted with emulsion. I like the matt finish it gives. Sharon x
