More Raw Edge Applique!
My 'spare' time here at SewforSoul is still taken up with producing thirty-two personalised linen egg cosies ready for Easter Sunday. These three were inspired by the gorgeous digital stamps Owl waiting for Santa, Butterflies and hearts and Flowers on the hill, over at Handmade Harbour.

ReplyDeleteI just love your egg cosies, Josie, and the free machine embroidery and different fabrics. I am about to get back into free machine embroidery after a gap of more years than I care to count - I'd have started a few weeks ago but my machine had broken down and was in for repair. Unfortunately, being 40 years old, the part is no longer available, and I've got to get a new machine!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely comment on my blog - yes, I do seem to spot art in everything these days! It's actually a habit one develops with practice. I'm a texture junkie and look for texture makers/mark makers everywhere, including rubbish. The chicken for the casserole I cooked for Mum's birthday came in some plastic trays with an interesting embossed design on the bottom, so these are now washed and waiting to be cut up, to use for creating texture! I have trained myself to think outside the box, and look for art supplies in completely unrelated shops (I bought poultry grit in our local agricultural merchant's which makes fabulous texture in mixed media) and in nature. After a while it becomes a habit and not difficult, and then using the stuff is just a matter of using your imagination, playing, risking making a mess (nothing lost if you do - mostly it can be rescued with the addition of more layers so it doesn't need to be thrown away!!).
I love thinking outside the box in terms of mixing different forms of art (e.g. adding zentangles to teabag marks) and not being limited by one medium. There is so much available to us today and it's fun to experiment with everything you possibly can!
